The Important Things
Has anyone else tried veering towards minimalism? My kids have informed me that I'm a hoarder, and when I look around our house, crammed to the brim with anything we could possibly need, I have to agree.
When I undertook the Stuff Your Stuff challenge, I started off by watching Minimalism - A Documentary About The Important Things. I don't know about you, but logical/scientific evidence sometimes isn't enough to keep me motivated to stick with something. I need the anecdotal evidence. I need a story!
It's been a couple of years now since I watched the documentary, but I think it's about time to sit down and watch it again. We moved house a few months ago and the number of boxes that I have yet to get around to unpacking is staggering. We can't possibly need these things if we've gone several months without using them. But then, the other day, I put on a jumper that I haven't worn for a year. Still loved it. Is it worth keeping something that you only use once a year??
I'm hoping that revisiting the documentary will remind me of just how much easier life can be when you have less stuff. After the mindless consumption of Black Friday and the pressure to gift everyone in your life with more crap they don't need at Christmas, a trip down minimalist lane will be just the cleanse I need.
As the film asks, how might your life be better with less?
