The 25 Most Wanted

Did you know that Global Wildlife Conservation has a '25 Most Wanted' list? It's comprised of animals that are feared extinct after having gone unseen for years or decades. In order to save these species from extinction, they first must be found.

Well, here's something to celebrate - one of these elusive beasties has been spotted. Apparently, the Voeltzkow's chameleon had simply gone on holiday for 107 years. Frank Glaw and his team from the Department of Vertebrates at the Bavarian State Collection of Zoology spent several fruitless days hunting for the chameleon through the dark jungles of northwest Madagascar, only to spot 18 of these chameleons in an unkempt hotel garden on the penultimate day of the expedition.

As Don Church, GWC president, says, "The Voeltzkow's chameleon adds colour and beauty to the planet, and reminds us that even when all seems lost, a great adventure can rekindle hope."

If you'd like to help protect endangered species, here are some suggestions as to steps you can take.
