Mini-Challenge: Pick an animal, any animal
There's a ton of endangered ones to pick between, thanks to our destructive habits. This mini-challenge is simply to select an endangered animal that you'd like to save from extinction and take a few steps to help them.
Here's a small list of the 10 most endangered animals in 2020, but there are plenty of other lists out there:
Cross River Gorilla
Saola (yeah, I didn't know what that was either. Apparently, it's been dubbed the Asian unicorn? Here's a picture...)
Yangtze Finless Porpoise
Have you picked an animal yet? Once you have, your mission is simple - get online and do a few minutes research into why this animal is endangered. Is it because products are made from the species itself? Is it because their habitat is being threatened? What products do you buy that destroy the habitat of the very creatures you'd like to protect?
Search for a few different organisations that have made it their mission to protect the animal you don't want driven to extinction. You can find many on Instagram or Facebook. Give them a follow and see how you can get involved in their efforts. Could you organise a fundraiser? Donate directly? Help spread awareness of the creature's plight? Whatever it is you can do to help, this mini-challenge asks you to do it.
Our planet would be a vastly duller place without the amazing variety of species that live here. And, we can't even begin to comprehend how much our own species depends upon the survival of others, no matter how tiny that species may be.
