Keep It Simple, Stupid
I started reading Drawdown because I wanted to know what is going to work - what do experts from around the globe say we should do in order to avert the impending shitshow of a climate disaster?
The book ranks eighty solutions based on the total amount of greenhouse gases they can potentially avoid or remove from the atmosphere. Given that it feels we're hurtling towards a climate apocalypse at breakneck speed, I'm really interested in the solutions that give the most bang for the buck - solutions 1-10.
However, more than those, I'm interested in the solutions that we as individuals can actually do something about, ideally from the comfort of our own homes.
The perfect solutions, in my mind, are the ones that can drastically reduce the amount of greenhouse gases we are chucking at the atmosphere AND be done quite simply and painlessly by an individual.
I'm only on solution number 10 of 80, and it seems there are already two perfect solutions to our climate crisis. Today I'm going to ramble a bit about solution number 4. This is the most frustrating solution because it is SO FLIPPING EASY and obvious and has innumerate benefits and yet... the majority of the population is like, "Nahhhh."
Can you guess what it is? Here are some clues...
If we all adopted this solution, we'd reduce current emissions by 70%. SEVENTY PERCENT.
On top of that, globally, we'd save $1 trillion a year in health care costs.
Tom Brady, the G.O.A.T. (well, aside from Serena Williams...) credits this solution with his athletic success.
